Over the last year I have basically just tried to keep my social media going for The Crafty Lass – my website and blog rightly or wrongly has largely been ignored. I was on maternity leave for little Rupert, then we had a pandemic and balancing a business with two small boys and life – well, there are only so many hours in a day?! There are only so many hats that can be worn.
But, now – it feels like the right time. I have spent the last few weeks working on redoing every page of this website… whilst there has been nothing ‘wrong’ with it before now – it was totally ready for a refresh. The background coding needed updating, the photos changing, some of the information was out of date…
Someone I greatly admire in the crafting world told me – ‘I work hardest on my website, as it’s the one thing that is truly mine. Who knows if Instagram or whatever will be the thing in the future?’ So true and actually, I feel silly for neglecting mine – but, actually, now is the right time to focus on business basics, strengthening what I’ve already built!
And, this has all been made SO much easier with a brand new laptop! As much as my old laptop had a broken keyboard (I was having to type on a plug in USB one, which works – but quite phaffy!!) I hadn’t planned in investing in one, until I really NEEDED to. However, I saw that Holly Tucker (Entrepreneur, founder of notonthehighstreet and Small Business champion!) was running a competition through her Holly & Co – to win a Dell XPS Laptop! I had to submit in 300 words why my business would benefit from a new laptop and how it would influence my journey… and she choose ME! Unbelievable.
Holly is someone I have always admired, I have her book ‘Build a Business From Your Kitchen Table’* in the studio and for her to choose The Crafty Lass, it feels amazing.
Not only did I receive this fab bit of new technology, but I also got a ‘bundle of small goodies’ – a fun ‘boss lady’ mug, my remote ‘IT Support’, a notepad by artist Nicola Rowlands – and a wonderful letter from Holly herself!
You can check out Holly’s podcast HERE where she talks about my entry as to why it would be business changing for me (she speaks with Will Butler-Adams, founder of Brompton Bicycle and Rich Callender – fitness expert!) The abit about The Crafty Lass is somewhere in the middle at around 25 minutes.
And now that I am using the laptop (which is simply unbelievable – it sync’s to my phone and everything – which from an image uploading/messaging/blogging way – it is SUPER helpful! My productivity is up, my stress levels are down.
So, the main part of this website updated – up next, is to concentrate on building up this blog. Whilst I have made so so SO many projects, I have mainly focused my time on putting these out JUST on social media. I just want the website to reflect aalllll the crafty things been up to! So over the next few months I plan to do exactly that – going back through what I have made over the last year or so and updating, adding and basically fine tuning it all until it is full to the brim of crafty inspiration. So, it starts from NOW! I’m quite excited for the challenge.
