Charity Knitting Night!

On Tuesday 22nd May – as part of Dementia Awareness Week, The Crafty Lass is holding a charity knitting night where we are knitting Twiddlemuffs…

What are they?! They sound funny… however, they are actually very important for Dementia sufferers. These are knitted hand ‘muffs’ that have various things attached to ‘twiddle’ with – like buttons, pompoms etc. They provide comfort and stimulation. They are also very much needed and very simple to make – if you know how…!

This event has now sold out – BUT – we have had SO MANY kind donations, that we are looking to hold ANOTHER event in the future too!

Just to clarify… we asked for some “small donations” of wool to help with the event… and the generosity of some people is INCREDIBLE.

We have had MANY donations – thank you to ALL of you! But, in particular, I would like to mention a local lady – Sarah Jayne Adams – who donated THREE BIN LINERS FULL of wool, and many many many already made items. Some of these, are not all for Dementia sufferers – but they are of importance, brilliantly handmade and will be well utilised by our local NHS hospitals who we are donating everything to.

From all the donations, we currently have:
– Near to (approx!) 300 balls of wool…
– 12 Twiddlemuffs
– 2 Twiddlebags
– 3 Twiddlecushions
– 2 Twiddlebooks
– FORTY FIVE Twiddleblankets

AND

– FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY (Yes, 550!) Newborn baby hats!

Once our charity knitting night is over on Tuesday, we will be giving everything that is made away to local hospitals/homes and planning the next event…!

BBC Radio Northampton are going to be in attendance on Tuesday evening too, to chat to us crafters and work out what and why and how we are making everything!
